Chotta Sahibzade’s Bravery: 26th December to be observed as Veer Bal Diwas

On 26th December 1704, Chotta Sahibzade (younger sons of tenth Guru Gobind Singh) – Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh were martyred, cruelly and inhumanely, by putting alive in the wall, by the Mughals in Sirhind at the tender age of 6 and 9 years. To commemorate their bravery, this day will be observed every year as Veer Bal Diwas.  

India celebrated the first ‘ Veer Bal Diwas ‘ on 26 December. Hereafter, this day will be observed as Veer Bal Diwas every year to mark the sacrifices and martyrdom of Chotta Sahibzade (i.e., younger sons of tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh) – Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.

On 21th December 1704, Vaada Sahibzade (older sons of Guru Gobind Singh) – Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh were martyred fighting the enemy of many thousands at the young age of 18 and 14 years in battle at Chamkaur Sahib. 

On 26th December 1704, Chotta Sahibzade (younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh) – Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh were martyred, cruelly and inhumanely, by putting alive in the wall, by the Mughals in Sirhind at the tender age of 6 and 9 years.  

At such a young age, the Chotta Sahibzade were not afraid of death. They refused to give up the path shown by Guru Govind Singh and change their religion fearing Mughal sword, instead, they chose to be interned alive in the wall. To commemorate their bravery, this day will be observed every year as Veer Bal Diwas.  

Observance of Veer Bal Diwas on this day is to remind of the immense contribution of ten Sikh gurus and the sacrifice of the Sikh tradition for protecting the honour of the nation” 

On 9th January 2022, the day of the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the government had announced that 26th December would be observed as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, to mark the martyrdom of Chotta Sahibzade – Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji.
