Syed Munir Hoda and Other Senior Muslim IAS/IPS Officers Appeal to the Worshippers to Observe Lockdown and Social Distancing During Ramazan

Several senior Muslim public servants, both serving and retired have appealed to the Muslim sisters and brothers to observe the lockdown and social distancing and extend support and help to needy people during the holy month of Ramazan

The holy month of Ramzan or Ramadan is starting soon when Muslims would observe fast and offer prayers

This year Ramazan comes to us at the time of a pandemic COID-19.

Since the novel coronavirus spreads by physical contact, social distancing is the most effective preventive measure. Therefore, the Tawaf in Kaba (the ritual circumambulation) in Mecca remain suspended for the last two months, and congregational prayers are not being held in any mosque.

During bad weather, heavy rain or severe cold, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) used to tell the muezzin to announce that no one needed to come to the mosque for jama’at, and the Farz namaz were to be prayed at home.

They note, ‘’Let’s remember that an inclement weather is nothing compared to a pandemic. Let’s also remember that causing harm or death by negligent behaviour is a grave crime in law and a grievous sin in religion. Carelessness in times such as these has a severe social and political repercussion’’.

‘’Let’s observe the lockdown and social distancing as laid down by the Central and State Governments’’.

In the month of Ramzan, many of us would be eager for Taraweeh (special additional ritual prayers during Ramadan performed by Muslims at night in the mosques). We know that it is not Farz. When the Farz Namaz are not being held in Jama’at, there is no justification for Taraweeh either.

Sisters and brothers, humanity is in deep distress. Unemployment, poverty and hunger is haunting the masses. The best way to serve God is to serve humanity. There is no better worship than charity.

Let’s make this Ramzan more blessed by feeding the hungry and serving the needy.
