The Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi visited the memorial of BJP’s former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi this morning and paid rich tributes to him.

Recognising contributions and paying tributes to non-Congress leaders as well appears to be a healthy gesture on part of Rahul Gandhi.

Notwithstanding political differences, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is known to have said very kind words for Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajeev Gandhi.

However, a Congress worker seems to have raked a pointless debate on several decade old controversial allegation about Vajpayee’s action/inaction during Quit India Movement in 1942 when Vajpayee was a teenager.

Lot has been written and debated on ‘Vajpayee and the Quit India movement’ in the decades spanning his long political career. That should be handed over to history and researchers. Discussing that now neither conforms to the great tradition of India nor would reap any political mileage.
