Pramod Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar Clinch Gold and Silver in Badminton at Tokyo Paralympics

The 33-year-old Pramod Bhagad from Odisha Clinched gold after defeated Great Britain Para player Daniel Bathell with 21-14,21-17 in the Men’s singles SL3 final. 

India also won the bronze at the same event, Manoj Sarkar defeated Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara with 22-20, 21-13 in the bronze medal match.

Pramod bhagat contracted polio at the age four which affected his left leg. He played his first tournament against normal category players when he was 15 years old. He was encouraged by spectators, which motivated him to move ahead in his badminton career. 

Bhagat has won many gold medals in his career including BWF Para Badminton World Championship in 2013, a Gold at the International Wheelchair Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games. 

Manoj Sarkar condition arose out of wrongful medical treatment at the age of one. He suffers from a PPRP Lower Limb condition. 

Manoj has won numerous accolades in the international circuit including a Men’s Singles Silver at the Thailand Para-Badminton International 2017, a Gold at the Uganda Para-Badminton International 2017 and a Gold in the men’s doubles event at the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships 2015. 

India has now won four golds, seven silvers and six bronze medals at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics Games.
