Annual three-day, Hindu harvest festival is being celebrated in Tamil Nadu in India and Sri Lanka.
Bhogi Pongal, Surya Pongal, and Mattu Pongal are three days of Pongal festival. Some also celebrate a fourth day, called Kanum Pongal.
Pongal festival marks the end of winter solstice, and the start of the sun’s northward journey to enter the Capricorn. The festival is named after traditional dish prepared from the new harvest of rice boiled in milk with jaggery.
