USA is not looking to sanction India on purchase of Russian Oil in view of importance USA attaches to their partnership with India.

Despite sanction imposed on Russia, India is continuing to buy Russian oil to meet its energy requirements. India’s imports from Russian have grown so much so India has become the topmost buyer of Russian crude. This has been resented in Europe particularly in Ukraine.

One Ukrainian lawmaker, during his trip to Washington. even suggested imposing sanctions on India as well.

On whether India should be sanctioned for continuing to purchase Russian oil, the Assistant Secretary Karen Donfried has said that US is not looking to sanction India.

She further added that their partnership with India is one of our most consequential relationships.
