Some states like Uttarakhandhas achieved the target of 100% electrification.

After completion of electrification in Uttar Pradesh recently, Indian Railways has completed the electrification of Uttarakhand. The entire broad gauge network (347 Route kilometres) in the state is electrified now.

Indian Railway is working in a mission mode to become the largest Green Railway in the world and is moving towards becoming a “net zero carbon emitter” before 2030.

India had over 50,000 km of railway network in 1947 when it gained independence which has since grown to around 68,000 km, making it fourth largest railway network in the world. India’s railway network was for a long time being largely fuelled by coal and diesel.
