To commemorate the Birth Centenary of the eminent structural biologist, G.N. Ramachandran, a special issue of Indian Journal of Biochemistry and Biophysics (IJBB) will be published on the theme of “Molecular Structure of Proteins in Health and Diseases”. The special issue of this journal will publish reviews and original research articles presented at the conference “Celebrating Proteins on the Birth Centenary of Prof. G.N. Ramachandran” during 3-4 March 2023. The subject matter experts will work together on this issue.

G.N. Ramachandran (1922 – 2001) was an Indian physicist (or biophysicist or structural biologist) known worldwide for his seminal contributions on structure and function of protein, particularly discovery of the triple helical structure of collagen and Ramachandran phi-psi Plot (which became a standard description of protein structure). He also credited for development of the theory of image reconstruction from shadowgraphs (such as X-radiograms) using the Convolution Technique.
