The title “The India Review” first published more than 175 years ago in January 1843, brings to the readers the news, insights, fresh Perspectives and analytical treatises on all the dimensions of life and society of India.
“The India Review“ was first published more than 175 years ago in February 1843. This carried the biographical sketches with portrait of Lieutenent-General Sir Huge Gough, the Colonel of the 87th, or Royal Irish Fusilers. A copy of this issue is preserved in Uttarpara Joykrishna Public Library Hooghly Bengal 1. The digital copy is available at the internet achieve. The full copy can be downloaded from the link.
Apparently, there is big gap of inactivity after 1843.
Evidence suggest that “The India Review” was published again from London in 1932 as a fortnightly journal on Indian affairs which was known earlier, between 1929 to 1932 as ‘Indian News’. There are records indicating this in The British Library 2 (link) and The New York Public Library 3 (link). This ceased soon.
As per the library records, the publication ceased with v. 4, no. 21, Nov. 26, 1932.
After about 85 years of gap, the title ”The India Review” was revived by Umesh Prasad in 2018 and the publication started again from England on 10 August 2018 when the first article on ‘The Splendid Pillars of Ashoka’ was covered using the worldwide domain www.TheIndiaReview.com
