Agnipath Scheme, implemented in September 2022, is a tour of duty style scheme for recruitment of soldiers (both male and female between age 17.5 to 21 years) below the rank of commissioned officers into the three services of the Indian armed forces. All recruits enter service for a four-year period.

Personnel recruited under this system are called Agniveers (Fire-warriors) which is a new military rank. They undergo training for six months followed by 3.5 years of deployment.
