Emperor Ashoka is remembered as the mightiest and greatest ruler and politician of all times for founding the first ‘modern’ welfare state in the world in antiquity and for writing down the core human values in stones as operating principles of governance.

In a world where peace is unknown, Ashoka dared to bring peace to the world by formulating, implementing and propagating the state ideology of non-violence, respect for diversity, tolerance for various sects, separation of state from personal faith, and welfare of people and the animals…thus becoming the legend…for founding the first ‘modern’ welfare state in the world in antiquity…and for writing down the core human values in stones as operating principles of governance.

Perhaps, Ashoka remains the only emperor in the history of mankind who was strong enough to apologise to his people.

Ashoka’s edicts and inscriptions in Brahmi (in Prakrit language), Greek and Aramaic on pillars and rocks spread across Indian subcontinent were aimed at enunciating his idea of dhamma.

Wish to hear what Ashoka the Great has in his mind?

Meet TM Krishna! He is the Singer who has given voice to ‘Ashoka the Great’ in 21st Century.

Chennai born, Thodur Madabusi Krishna is an Indian Carnatic vocalist, writer, activist, and author. As a vocalist, he has made a large number of innovations in both the style and substance. He undertook the Edict project in collaboration with Ashoka University and has done a marvellous job in giving voice to Ashoka in 21st century.

Hats off to TM Krishna, for his novel contribution of bringing the ideas of Ashoka the Great in musical format to the people!
