In the middle of three weeks total lock-down for fighting COVID-19 pandemic when people are confined to homes, there is fair possibility of gloom or depression setting in amongst the masses. This little celebration of light could be contributory in mental health of the population. This could as well serve as non-verbal therapy for the victims.

In the recent address to the nation, the Prime Minister Modi has appealed to the citizens to light candles at 9 pm on Sunday the fifth for nine minutes.

There are lots of reports in social media of astrological significance of lighting candles at 9 pm on 5 April for 9 minutes however Modi seems to have made a case for ”hope” saying “amid the darkness spread by the corona pandemic, we must continuously progress towards light and hope,”

Celebration

India has a strong tradition of expression of joy and celebratory mood by way of lighting diyas or candles during Diwali.

But how about motivating and keeping morale of health workers who are compromising their lives while providing care to the corona patients ? There are several reports of doctors and nurses being assaulted and insulted by the suspected cases of corona.

A second ”clapping” for the health workers and recognising their sterling contributions could have been more helpful in fight against corona.
